"Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty's teeth." George Washington

Massing of the Colors

The Annual Massing of the Colors sponsored by The Sons of Liberty Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, is the largest celebration of George Washington's birth held in the west.

Ceremonies include color guards, an artillery and musket salute, wreath laying ceremony, addresses by dignitaries, and, last year, an Air Force F16 fly-by.

Participation is open to all military, veterans, lineage, patriotic, and reenactment organizations.

Commander-in-Chief Guards

Mission

The Sons of Liberty Chapter, SAR’s Commander-in-Chief’s Color Guard is a visual reminder of the sacrifices of our founding fathers and the heroic men who helped them establish this Country.

To help meet the objectives of the Sons of the American Revolution, declared to be historic, patriotic and educational, our color guard was created. The deployment of the Commander-in-Chief’s Guards is a familiar sight in the Los Angeles area, but we have not confined our activities here. The Guard has appeared in Washington, D.C., Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, Yorktown, Virginia, and several other major cities.

In February, 2003, the Guard represented the USA in the 225th anniversary of the Franco-American alliance in Paris, France, where fourteen Guardsmen participated.

The Guard has participated in enumerable parades, including serving as the lead color guard at the massive “Annual George Washington Commemorative Massing of the Colors,” the largest such celebration of its kind in the western US, for the last nineteen years.
