"Mankind, when left to themselves, are unfit for their own government." George Washington

Researching the Revolution?

Our chapter has built a companion web site, which features fully researched articles on the Revolutionary War, including battles, events, weapons, and biographies of General George Washington and other patriots who fought to win freedom for the American Colonies. This is a great resource for teachers and students studying our country's founding.

Welcome to the Sons of Liberty Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution

We Honor Their Sacrifice

The Sons of the American Revolution is an historical, educational, and patriotic organization that seeks to maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom, an appreciation for true patriotism, a respect for our national symbols, the value of American citizenship and the unifying force of "e pluribus unum" that has created, from the people of many nations, one nation and one people. We do this by perpetuating the stories of patriotism, courage, sacrifice, tragedy, and triumph of the men who achieved the independence of the American people in the belief that these stories are universal ones of man's eternal struggle against tyranny, relevant to all time, and will inspire and strengthen each succeeding generation as it too is called upon to defend our freedoms on the battlefield and in our public institutions.

  • Help Wanted: Newsletter Editor
  • Commander-in-Chief Guards

Your Chapter needs you! The "Liberty Tree," our Chapter's award-winning newsletter is without an editor. No newsletter has been published this year. That is almost scandalous in a chapter with 130 members. Won't you help?

We would like a team of Compatriots to produce the newsletter, so that it's not an overwhelming task for any one person.

If you would like to help organize the newsletter, please contact Gary Bohannon, Chapter Secretary, or any Chapter officer.

Our Chapter's most visible outreach is our award-winning Color Guard, based upon the famed light infantry unit that protected General Washington during the American Revolutionary War. Officially known as the Commander-in-Chief Guards, they were more often called Washington's Life Guards. They fought in every battle at which Washington was personally in command. Today, the S.A.R.'s national color guard program works much the same way as militia units did during the American War for Independence. There were militia units comprised of civilians spread out in all the towns and local communities, ready to be called to action. Today, the SAR relies on the Color Guard units of its local Chapters to act on behalf of the State and National Societies to bring the history of the American Revolution alive. Our Color Guard is available to serve at public events throughout Southern California. More>>
