Compatriot King

Arthur Mansfield King became President General of the National Society in 1980. His resume of notable achievements at the chapter, state, and national level would be several pages long. He married Berdena in 1928, became a member of the SAR in 1963 and passed away in 2005. Their memory lives on in the Eagle Scholarship Contest.

Rcognition

Any Boy Scout in the San Gabriel Valley Council or the Verdugo Hills Council who has attained the rank of Eagle Scout may apply for recognition from the Sons of the American Revolution for his tremendous achievement. The Scout will receive a signed certificate and letter of recognition from our Chapter honoring his attainment of Eagle rank. Simply click the "Contact" link on the main menu above and select ""Boy Scout Programs" from "Area of Interest" drop-down. Be sure to include the Eagle Scout's name as you would like it to appear, and the mailing address where you want the certificate sent.

Scholarship

The Arthur M. & Berdena King Eagle Scout Scholarship is open to all Eagle Scouts who are currently registered in an active unit and have not reached their 19th birthday during the year of application.  The year that Eagle was awarded is not restricted, and qualification for membership in the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) is not required.

College plans do not need to be completed in order to receive the cash scholarship.  Three cash scholarship awards are given: As the National First Place winner - $8,000.00; Runner-up - $4,000.00; 2nd runner-up - $2,000.00.  You may apply more than one year if you meet the age requirements but no more than $8,000.00 total may be granted to any one Eagle Scout.

Complete details and forms are available on the National SAR Website.

Only Eagle Scouts currently active in the San Gabriel Valley Council or the Verdugo Hills Council in the Los Angeles area are eligible to apply though this Chapter, and only one application per Troop within each District will be accepted.

All applications must be received by this Chapter not before September first nor later than December first. Incomplete applications, or those received after December first will not be considered, so all interested Scouts must coordinate with their Scoutmasters.

SCOUTMASTERS: To forward an application from your Troop, ensure the application is complete and signed by you, then contact the Sons of Liberty Chapter using the "Contact" page and selecting "Boy Scout Programs" from the drop-down menu. We will then supply you with mailing instructions.

Good luck to your Eagle Scout!
