Isaac North – Bio

P – Isaac North Jr. / CT / 2nd LT / 1777 / M- Peter Ford

Ensign in the 18th Co. of the Train Band in the 6th Regiment of this Colony. More importantly he fought in Revolutionary War as a 2nd Lt in Capt. Chester Wells Co., (1st was LT. Charles Butler) under Brig. Gen. Wolcott’s Brigade of Connecticut Militia.

General Washington urged the CT. governor to send a body of militia to serve at Peekskill, NY. in March – June 1777. where General McDougal was posted with a few troops. Isacc North Jr. arrived on April 10 and was dismissed on May 22nd..

On March 23, 1777, 500 British troops disembarked from 10 ships sent up the Hudson to attack the storehouse at Peekskill, New York. 250 American troops manned the storehouse at Peekskill under the command of Alexander McDougall. McDougall withdrew into the town and asked for support from Fort Montgomery across the river. Col Marinus Willett arrived with 80 men and with the General’s permission led an attack on the British who were burning military supplies. Willett fired on the British and charged with bayonets forcing the British to retreat. Peekskill was an Important Location During the War of Independence Peekskill was a significant Revolutionary War military base. It served nearly two years as a Command Post for the Continental Army in the Hudson Valley from 1776
